How kiosk-402 works
No subscriptions. No payment processor. Approved creators publish; every payment splits on-chain.
The protocol
kiosk-402 uses x402 — HTTP's long-dormant 402 Payment Required status code, paired with USDC on Base. When you click "unlock," your wallet signs an EIP-3009 transferWithAuthorization. The site verifies the signature, submits the transaction, and serves the content with the transaction hash as your receipt.
The split
Every approved creator gets their own immutable smart contract — a KioskSplitter. When you pay, USDC arrives at that contract and is split 50/50 between the creator and kiosk-402. The split is on-chain, transparent, and irreversible. Anyone can verify by reading the splitter on Basescan.
The catalog
Four kinds of things you can buy:
- Articles — short essays and reportage. Unlock once, read for 24 hours.
- Files — one-shot download.
- Videos — time-bound stream window (default 24 hours).
- Experiences — interactive sessions like games with shared leaderboards.
Becoming a creator
Apply with a sample of your work. If approved, your splitter is deployed automatically and you can start publishing. You keep 50% of every sale, paid to the wallet you applied with.
Security and transparency
kiosk-402 follows the OWASP Web App Checklist (Proactive Controls C1–C10) end-to-end. Auth is wallet-only (no passwords, no PII beyond your address). Every settlement is publicly verifiable on Base. The platform never custodies creator funds — money flows from buyer → splitter → 50/50 in a single transaction.
